March is National Nutrition Month

Why Nutrition?

Access to nutritional food is directly linked to socio-economic status. At AWC, we partner with local organizations to help the indigent and homeless in our community combat food insecurity and to educate the public on the importance of food equality in building stronger, more resilient communities. Click on the button below to find out more about food insecurity, malnutrition, and its relationship to poverty in our communities.

AWC Community Food Partners and Programs

SNAP and UGA SNAP-Ed

SNAP is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly known as Food Stamps). It is part of the U.S. domestic hunger safety net and provides economic benefits to eligible, low-income individuals and families for food purchases.

SNAP-Ed is the nutrition promotion and obesity prevention component of SNAP. The goal of SNAP-Ed is to improve the likelihood that SNAP-eligible Georgians will make healthy food and lifestyle choices that prevent obesity.

AWC partners with UGA SNAP-Ed to provide our patients with educational resources and workshops to improve their nutrition, help them find ways to access quality food, and to manage diseases related to poor nutrition and and combat malnutrition.
